Portugal, without Cristiano Ronaldo, triumphed 4-2 against Finland in a Euro 2024 warm-up match in Lisbon. Bruno Fernandes, the Manchester United captain, made a significant impact off the bench, scoring twice to secure the win.
Rúben Dias opened the scoring with a header from Vitinha’s corner in the 17th minute. Diogo Jota added a second goal with a penalty just before half-time, after Francisco Conceicao was fouled.
Fernandes, who came on as a substitute, scored Portugal’s third with a long-range strike in the 55th minute. Finland’s veteran striker Teemu Pukki then netted twice (72′ and 77′) to narrow the gap, making it 3-2 and creating a tense finish. However, Fernandes sealed the victory with his second goal in the 84th minute, assisted by the outstanding Conceicao.
Portugal, managed by Roberto Martinez, showed both promise and areas for improvement ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Croatia and Ireland, and their Euro 2024 opener against the Czech Republic. Francisco Conceicao was particularly impressive, playing a crucial role in the win and earning the Player of the Match title.
