Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of French superstar Kylian Mbappé. The 25-year-old forward will join the Spanish giants on a five-year contract.
In a statement, Real Madrid said, “Real Madrid C.F. and Kylian Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
Mbappé, widely regarded as one of the best finishers in the world, will initially wear the number 9 shirt. Reports indicate that he will switch to the number 10 shirt in 2025 when Luka Modrić leaves the club.
Mbappé, who had previously been with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), confirmed his departure by removing PSG from his Instagram bio last month. He expressed his excitement about joining Real Madrid on social media, saying, “A dream come true, so happy and proud to join the club of my dream. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas. ¡Hala Madrid!”
Sources told ESPN that Mbappé has signed a five-year deal worth €15 million ($16.2 million) a year after taxes. The forward had been in negotiations with Madrid since at least February.
Mbappé, who joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a world-record fee for a teenager of €180 million ($195.4 million), became PSG’s captain and all-time top scorer with 255 goals. He won six Ligue 1 titles and the World Cup with France in 2018, scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final.
Despite his individual successes, Mbappé could not lead PSG to a Champions League title. He now joins a Madrid squad featuring stars like Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo.
Mbappé will also aim to inspire France in the upcoming European Championship in Germany, though he was left off the preliminary squad for the Paris Olympics in July and August.
