A high court in Ikeja, Lagos, has approved bail for former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, with a bail bond set at N50 million.
Judge Rahmon Oshodi, who ruled on the bail application on Friday, April 12, granted Emefiele bail with two sureties who must also deposit the same amount.
Oshodi specified that the sureties must be employed and have paid their taxes to the Lagos State government for three consecutive years. Additionally, the sureties need to provide proper identification and be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
Emefiele is currently facing a 26-count charge related to allegations of abuse of office. He had previously pleaded not guilty to these charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday, April 8, remanded the former governor of the CBN in the custody of the EFCC, following his arraignment.
Justice Rahman Oshodi made the remand order after Emefiele and his co-defendants, Herry Omoile, pleaded not guilty to a 26-count charge bordering on abuse of office brought against them by the EFCC.
Emefiele had remained behind bars until today, Friday, April 12, when the Judge granted his bail application.
