Sobomabo Jackrich, a former candidate for the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election in Rivers State, has been taken into custody.
According to reports from Channels TV, Jackrich was arrested by individuals wearing military attire at his home in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area of the state on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.
Jackrich, also known as ‘Egberipapa,’ previously served as a militant leader and later embraced amnesty during the administration of late President Umar Yar’Adua.
Sources familiar with the incident stated that the arrest, carried out in a swift manner around 2:00 am on Monday, led to the unfortunate death of two of Jackrich’s aides.
Confirming the incident, Jackrich’s media aide, Soibibo Sokari, described it as an abduction.
“Yes it is true he was abducted this morning. Two persons were killed, and their bodies were carted away along with him. We are still following up on the incident to get more details. We don’t know exactly who is behind it. But as the details unfold, we will let the public know about it,” he said.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident, said that it was not a case of kidnap but that Jackrich was with security personnel.
“It is not a kidnapping. He is with some security personnel. That is all I can say for now,” she added.
