President Bola Tinubu has honored all the players of the Super Eagles team that secured the silver medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Each player has been granted a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a flat as recognition for their achievement at the recently concluded tournament.
Nigeria’s journey to clinch the nation’s fourth AFCON title ended with a 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final on Sunday.
The Eagles took the lead with a powerful header from William Troost-Ekong in the first half, but Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller scored for the Ivorians in the second half.
During a reception at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu awarded each member of the silver medal-winning squad the Member of the Order of Niger (MON) honor.
Tinubu commended the team for their resilience, sportsmanship, and positive attitude, expressing gratitude for uplifting the nation’s spirits with their performance at AFCON.
Following the ceremony, Nyesome Wike, the Minister of FCT, provided the players with forms to fill out in order to claim their gifts of land and apartments.
