Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, remarked that Nigerians often expect too many responsibilities from their Presidents.
In a widely circulated interview, the ex-Minister in the Buhari administration emphasized that certain needs like water, housing rent, and sanitation do not fall within the President’s constitutional duties.
In his words;
“Are we expecting too much from the President? What constitutional role does the President have with regards to things that affect the majority of the people? Water Supply, Sanitation, getting a business permit, paying rent? Those are things that are not the responsibilities of the Nigerian President.”
His comment has however generated mixed reactions from many Nigerians. While many agree with him, others argue that the buck of the Nation’s wellbeing stops at the desk of the President.
