A British cargo ship was attacked in the Red Sea near Hodeida, Yemen, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident happened early Tuesday, and while no one has claimed responsibility, there are suspicions that Houthi rebels backed by Iran might be involved.
The UKMTO said the ship’s captain noticed a small boat on the left side before a projectile was fired at the vessel. Fortunately, none of the crew members were hurt during the incident.
Although the ship’s bridge windows were damaged, it was still able to continue its journey safely. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps stated that the UK is prepared to defend itself if needed against Houthi rebels in Yemen. This statement came after joint airstrikes by the UK and the U.S. targeted three military sites belonging to the rebels on Saturday, which were considered lawful and defensive actions after careful assessment.
