Actress Gina Carano has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, with support from Elon Musk, following her dismissal in 2021 over controversial social media posts. Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” alleges wrongful termination and retaliation.
The lawsuit, seeking $75,000 in damages and a court order for recasting, accuses Disney of enforcing a single ideological narrative and silencing dissent. Carano’s posts, which drew criticism for equating Republican persecution to the Holocaust, led to her termination by Lucasfilm.
Elon Musk, who offered to fund legal battles for those facing workplace discrimination over social media posts, has backed Carano’s lawsuit. His support reflects a commitment to free speech and combating bullying and discrimination.
Carano asserts that her posts were made in a personal capacity and not representative of her work. She aims to clear her name and resume her career in storytelling, emphasizing her passion for the craft.
Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to respond to the lawsuit. Previously, a Lucasfilm spokesperson condemned Carano’s posts as “abhorrent and unacceptable.” The lawsuit raises questions about free speech, workplace discrimination, and the boundaries between personal expression and professional consequences.
