Former Governor of Yobe State, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, has died at the age of 75 while undergoing medical treatment in Saudi Arabia. Mr Ibrahim, who served as Yobe’s governor from 1999 to 2007 and subsequently as a senator, succumbed to a long-term illness on 4th February.
The current Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a “huge loss” not only for Yobe but for Nigeria as a whole. Governor Buni is overseeing arrangements for a ceremonial state burial in Saudi Arabia, where the late senator will be laid to rest.
In a statement, Governor Buni’s spokesperson highlighted the significant impact Mr Ibrahim had on Yobe and the nation’s political landscape. The former governor’s tenure was marked by dedicated efforts to enhance the lives of constituents and promote stability and growth in the region.
Bukar Abba Ibrahim, a respected politician, is survived by his wife, Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, a serving lawmaker representing Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu, and Tarmuwa Federal Constituency. The state government, under Governor Buni’s directives, is taking charge of all funeral arrangements and condolences to accord the late governor a state burial and proper honors.
