Manchester United has officially named Omar Berrada as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant move for the Red Devils. The appointment comes after Berrada’s departure from cross-town rivals Manchester City, where he served as the Chief Football Operations Officer at the City Football Group.
The decision to bring in Berrada has been led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and approved by the Glazers, demonstrating a strategic move by United’s leadership. The club emphasized its commitment to prioritizing football and on-field performance, placing it at the core of their operations.
In a statement, Manchester United stated, “Omar brings a wealth of football and commercial expertise, with a proven record of successful leadership and a passion to help lead change across the Club.” Berrada, who has been a key figure in European football, will play a crucial role in the club’s journey to re-establish itself as a title-winning force.
Berrada’s tenure at Manchester City Football Group included roles such as Chief Football Operations Officer, Group Commercial Director, and Director of Partnership Sales. His departure from City was described as amicable, and he expressed a desire to take on new challenges.
Manchester United has been without a CEO since November, and Berrada’s appointment is a significant step in reshaping the leadership structure. The club’s ambition is to see the “red flag flying high at the summit of English, European, and world football,” echoing the words of Sir Matt Busby.
Omar Berrada’s start date with Manchester United will be confirmed soon. In the meantime, Patrick Stewart will continue serving as the interim CEO. The move marks one of the first major appointments during the INEOS era at Old Trafford, with Ratcliffe’s deal as a minority shareholder set to be ratified by the Premier League in February. INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford has also resigned his role as INEOS Grenadiers cycling team principal to focus on his work at United.
