Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is currently in court requesting a modification of his bail conditions. In November of the previous year, the FCT High Court had granted him bail for the sum of N300 million. Emefiele is facing trial on six counts related to procurement fraud amounting to N1.2 billion.
Notably, this marks the first time he has appeared in court without armed security personnel escorting him. Emefiele was released from Kuje Custodial Centre on December 23, 2023, after spending 34 days in custody. His plea to the court seeks a review of certain terms of his bail conditions.
