Former President Goodluck Jonathan is in mourning following the loss of his elder sister, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, aged 70, who succumbed to a brief illness on Thursday, January 11, at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Affectionately known as Amissi, the departed was not only a retired teacher and successful businesswoman but also a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to the service of God and humanity. A devout Christian and virtuous woman, she served as a role model both within and beyond her community.
The announcement was made by Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, the Special Adviser on Media to Jonathan, in a statement. The family has set the burial date for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, with further details of the funeral rites to be provided in due course.
Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan. Her passing marks a significant loss to the Jonathan family and the community at large.
