Carrie Bernans, known for her roles in “Black Panther” and “The Color Purple,” was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in New York City. The 29-year-old actress and stuntwoman was pinned under a food truck when a driver fleeing police crashed into pedestrians near Penn Station on New Year’s Day.
Bernans suffered broken bones and chipped teeth in the crash, causing significant pain, according to her mother’s Instagram post. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., and the driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested on charges including attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and driving while intoxicated.
The crash, which took place a few blocks south of Times Square, left several pedestrians injured, but none of the injuries were life-threatening, as per the police. Bernans, a new mother, was not with her child at the time of the incident.
In a statement, Bernans’ representative confirmed her serious injuries, including broken bones, and her stable condition in the hospital. The hit-and-run followed a police foot chase related to a physical assault involving the driver and a female passenger.
Bernans’ mother shared graphic images of her daughter’s injuries on Instagram, expressing gratitude for her survival and the support received. Despite the setbacks, Bernans remains hopeful and filled with faith as she undergoes recovery.
The driver, currently in critical condition, faces multiple charges, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Bernans, known for her roles and stunts in major films, now navigates a path toward recovery and new beginnings, surrounded by thoughts and prayers from well-wishers.
