Birmingham City has announced the sacking of Wayne Rooney from his managerial position after just 15 games in charge. Rooney took over as manager on October 11, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club positioned sixth in the Championship.
However, the former Manchester United star experienced a challenging tenure, witnessing his team lose nine out of the 15 matches played under his leadership. This disappointing run left Birmingham City in 20th place in the Championship table.
Rooney’s departure follows less than 24 hours after he addressed what he deemed an “unacceptable” chant during Birmingham City’s recent defeat to Leeds. The defeat, with goals from Patrick Bamford, Dan James, and Crysencio Summerville sealing a 3-0 win for Leeds, intensified the pressure on Rooney.
The 38-year-old manager had expressed his determination to elevate the club upon his appointment, outlining a clear vision for the team’s style of play. Despite his optimism, results on the pitch did not align with expectations.
The search for Rooney’s replacement is underway, with names like Jesse Marsch, Lee Carsley, and Tony Mowbray mentioned as potential candidates. Birmingham City officials plan to conduct a thorough assessment before appointing a new manager to lead the team forward.
