Musiala’s Header Secures Bayern’s 1-0 Win Over Benfica, Ending Champions League Losing Streak

bayern vs benfica

Bayern Munich clinched a 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Jamal Musiala’s powerful header in the 67th minute sealing the victory. Musiala, assisted by Harry Kane, broke the deadlock as Bayern dominated the game, creating numerous opportunities but facing strong resistance from Benfica’s goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.

The match started after a 15-minute delay due to train issues, and Bayern, aiming to end a two-game Champions League losing streak, initially struggled against a compact Benfica defense. Despite missing several chances, Bayern pressed hard, with Kane and Michael Olise both denied by Trubin in the first half. Leroy Sané also saw his effort pushed wide early in the second half.

Musiala’s goal lifted Bayern to six points, placing them 17th in the Champions League’s new league-format standings, while Benfica, unable to generate much offense with only one shot on goal compared to Bayern’s 23, remain at six points in 19th place. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised Musiala’s positioning, attributing his goal instincts to his observations of teammates like Thomas Müller and Kane.

Benfica coach Bruno Lage acknowledged his team’s struggle to maintain possession under Bayern’s pressure, despite their experience with high-stakes play. With this victory, Bayern also recorded their fourth consecutive clean sheet across all competitions and continue to top the Bundesliga.
