Liverpool Tops Premier League with Comeback Win Over Brighton as Rivals Stumble

Liverpool surged to the top of the Premier League with a spirited 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton at Anfield, capitalizing on Arsenal and Manchester City’s surprise defeats earlier in the day.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Liverpool found themselves behind after a fine 16-yard strike from Brighton’s Ferdi Kadioglu, who capped a strong first-half display for the visitors. Brighton controlled the opening half and nearly extended their lead, but Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher denied Georginio Rutter to keep the Reds within striking distance.

The second half saw Liverpool come alive, pressing forward with greater intent. Cody Gakpo’s left-wing cross unexpectedly curled into the net in the 58th minute, leveling the score and giving Liverpool a burst of momentum. Just three minutes later, Mohamed Salah sealed the comeback with a trademark curling shot from the right side of the box, putting Liverpool ahead and sending Anfield into a frenzy.

With this win, Liverpool climbed to 25 points, two clear of Manchester City, who suffered a shock loss to Bournemouth. Arsenal also stumbled, falling to Newcastle, allowing Liverpool to capitalize on a rare double setback for their title rivals.

Liverpool’s success under new manager Arne Slot has been notable, with 13 wins in 15 matches this season. Slot’s emphasis on width paid off again, as Gakpo and Salah dominated the flanks, while Trent Alexander-Arnold looked comfortable under Slot’s defensive structure. Despite the victory, Liverpool may face a defensive reshuffle, as center-back Ibrahima Konaté exited with a potential injury in the first half.

Liverpool’s latest triumph underlines their growing confidence and adaptability as they continue to strengthen their title campaign.
