It was sent to French contemporary hit radio through Universal Music Group on September 10, 2021, as the sixth single from his sixth studio album, Justice. Bieber wrote the song with producers Jon Bellion and the Monsters & Strangerz (Jordan K. Johnson and Stefan Johnson), alongside Michael Pollack. Commercially, the song reached number one in Singapore, the top ten in Canada and Malaysia, and the top 40 in eight additional countries.
In this song, Justin Bieber sings about losing a loved one, whether it’s death or them walking out of his life. The song is also about how people could not see their families during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which social distancing guidelines were enforced.
On February 26, 2021, Justin’s paternal grandfather, George, passed away unexpectedly in his house, the same day that Justin announced Justice. The cause of his death is unknown, but it could be a major factor in what Justin croons about in the song.
Upon the release of Justice, the song charted at number 41 on the Billboard Global 200. It entered several record charts worldwide, including Australia (53), Canada (27), Denmark (25), Portugal (114), Slovakia (58), and Sweden (72). In the United States, the song debuted at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 as one of the 11 new entries from Justice. Following its promotion to pop radio as a single, the song peaked at number 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number ten on the Canadian Hot 100, and number 29 on the Billboard Global 200.
