In “Mask Off” Future explores his rags-to-riches journey, which takes him from trapping to living a life of luxury. “Prison Song” by Tommy Butler featuring Carlton Williams is sampled in the slow and syrupy production by Metro Boomin.
Future’s song peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of his most popular singles ever. The song is also certified 8X platinum by the RIAA.
Similarly, it spawned the #MaskOffChallenge, in which participants danced and played instruments to the song. It contributed a great deal to the song’s success.
A video for the song’s official music video debuted on May 4, 2017, and a remix with Kendrick Lamar followed two weeks later.
