We Will Not Join ASUU Strike – OAU Vice Chancellor
The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Eyitope Ogunbodede, says educators of the college are not participating in the uncertain strike proclaimed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Monday.
As indicated by the chancellor, the teachers of the college have no enthusiasm for the strike and would in this manner proceed with their scholarly activities.
“OAU is not on strike. As at today, no lecturer has told me that they
want to go on strike. We are not participating in any national
strike,” Mr. Ogunbodede told PREMIUM TIMES on phone.
“If they tell me they want to go on strike, then it is a different case,
As such, I must have seen that all of my academic staff want to go on
“In OAU, we have ‘unions’; neither of the two has told me they want to go on strike so we are not joining any strike at all.”
The Academic Staff Union of Universities split into two groups in OAU in 2016 after a gathering of the educators declared the removal of Caleb Aborisade as the union's executive, because of an emergency regarding the arrangement of Anthony Elujoba as acting bad habit chancellor of the college.
Mr. Aborisade and a gathering of educators were against the procedure that prompted the arrangement of the ASUU Strike habit chancellor.
In spite of the fact that Mr. Aborisade declined to venture down after educators faithful to the acting bad habit chancellor reported his evacuation, they disintegrated the authority of ASUU and declared Niyi Sunmonu as director of an overseer advisory group in its place.
The national body of the union however remained by Mr. Aborisade and does not perceive the overseer panel, demanding that its arrangement did not take after due process.
Incidentally, Mr. Elujoba has since been supplanted as bad habit chancellor and is as of now confronting trial for charged defilement, an improvement that has developed the emergency among educators in the college.
Yet, he appreciates the sensitivity of the new bad habit chancellor who has been assembling support in the college against Mr. Elujoba's trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Until the emergency, OAU had a standout amongst the most persuasive parts of ASUU.
The guardian panel of the union is required to toe the line of the college administration over the current across the nation strike of ASUU.
PREMIUM TIMES was not ready to get the responses of Messrs. Sunmonu and Aborisade at the season of this report, as their phone lines showed were turned off.
